Sony’s long-awaited PlayStation 5 upgrade is on its way at last, but it comes with a hefty $700+ price tag.
The PS5 Pro will hit the shelves on November 7, with Sony designer Mark Cerny claiming the console is "the most powerful we’ve ever built."
PlayStation fans have been facing an arduous four-year wait for an upgrade to this generation’s hardware, and the PS5 Pro, unveiled on Tuesday evening, promises to add more power to its gaming, and also incorporates an artificial intelligence (AI) feature.
Alongside the upgraded GPU, allowing for 45% faster rendering, it will also include “Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-driven upscaling that uses a machine learning-based technology to provide super sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail,” according to Sony.
The PS5 Pro will be fully compatible with original PS5 accessories, and will provide patch upgrades to existing games.
"As time goes by, particularly for the games which are launching after the hardware releases, we'll increasingly see a more nuanced approach, where the focus is less on resolution and much more about higher image quality through a variety of strategies,” Cerny told CNET.
The asking price and the lack of a disk drive has split the online community, with many voicing their disappointment at the latest model and cost.
The console can be pre-ordered from Sept. 26.
