Fancy a chat with Dame Judi Dench or Hollywood hardman John Cena?

Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp owner Meta has announced its chatbot will respond to voice commands and offer users the option of adding celebrity voices to their personalized bot, including Dench and Cena.

With artificial intelligence (AI) opening the door to more diverse technology opportunities, Meta plans to attract users to its platforms by utilizing celebrity royalty, with AI versions of actors also including Awkwafina, Keegan-Michael Key and Kristen Bell.

Meta attempted to launch a celebrity chatbot last year, based on personalities like Snoop Dogg, but later shelved the concept.

The tech giant will now make another attempt to engage audiences in an innovative way, with chief executive Mark Zuckerberg announcing the news at the company's annual Connect conference on Thursday.

“I think that voice is going to be a way more natural way of interacting with AI than text," Zuckerburg said.

The chatbot will also be able to recognize objects in users' photos and provide information about them. The image editing feature will also be voice-controlled.

Zuckerberg also unveiled the first pair of Meta's augmented-reality (AR) glasses, Orion. “A lot of people have said this is the craziest technology they’ve ever seen,” he added.

Users will be able to interact with Orion through hand-tracking, voice and wrist-based interface.
