Emirates Health Services (EHS) has unveiled the adoption of new technology to help in the early detection of vision problems in children.

The Spot Vision Screener will allow for precise detection of vision issues in young children, from six months to five years old, and will be implemented during routine health check-ups at clinics.

The proactive move targets various eye conditions and will initially be available at 20 EHS primary healthcare centers.

Dr. Kareema Alraesi, Director of the Primary Healthcare Department at EHS, stated that the adoption of the Spot Vision Screener reflects the EHS' commitment to providing sustainable and comprehensive healthcare to all members of the UAE community, especially children.

Dr. Karima highlighted that Spot Vision provides precise results that help determine the need for additional examinations and treatment to prevent negative effects on children's academic and social development.

"We recommend conducting this screening every six months until the child reaches the age of five to ensure early identification of any potential problems that may impact vision or eye health," she said.

The technology used in this screening process can detect a range of eye conditions affecting children, including near-sightedness, far-sightedness, strabismus and astigmatism. When positive cases are identified, children are referred to specialized healthcare centers for comprehensive evaluations, diagnoses, and treatment.

The screenings take only a few seconds and are non-invasive.
