World, the "proof-of-humanity" initiative co-founded by Sam Altman, formerly known as Worldcoin, has launched a new Ethereum layer-2 blockchain called World Chain.

As of October 17, the organization revealed that 15 million users, who verified their identities through iris scans for a "World ID," can now access the network. This new blockchain aims to increase efficiency and provide new features for users of its Worldcoin (WLD) token, as part of its broader onboarding strategy.

World Chain is designed to prioritize verified human users—those with World IDs—by providing them with access to block space and a free gas allowance, reducing the impact of automated bots. The platform will also feature prominent applications and projects, such as Optimism for interoperability, Uniswap for asset swaps, Zerion for real-time APIs, and Alchemy for development, among others.

According to the announcement, World Chain's ecosystem integrates various blockchain solutions, enabling users to participate in development, transactions, and community initiatives. This newly opened access is positioned to attract a wider range of participants, potentially driving innovation and collaboration across the platform.

The timing of this announcement coincides with the increasing adoption of blockchain technology in various industries, including finance, healthcare, and logistics. By welcoming all users, World Chain acknowledges the importance of diverse perspectives in advancing technology and developing practical solutions.

Originally introduced in April, World Chain emphasizes a "human-centric" approach to cryptocurrency adoption. Along with its launch, the company has rebranded and introduced an updated version of its biometric device, the "Orb," a chrome sphere used for iris scanning.

Additionally, World has announced new identity verification options and partnerships with popular social media applications, including FaceTime, WhatsApp, and Zoom, further enhancing its integration into the digital ecosystem.
