The World Foundation has introduced the World ID Passport Credential feature through a pilot program aimed at expanding access to the World Network and its benefits, including eligibility for additional WLD tokens.

The initiative was announced at the “A New World” event in San Francisco and is now being rolled out in select countries.

The World ID Passport Credential allows individuals to connect valid forms of identification, starting with NFC-enabled passports, to their World ID without sharing personal information with the World Foundation, Tools for Humanity, or any other third party.

All information is securely stored on the user’s device, ensuring privacy. Using the World ID protocol, individuals can privately verify aspects of their identity, such as age or nationality, while maintaining anonymity.

This new feature aims to increase accessibility for billions of people, including the 1.2 billion passport holders worldwide, who may not be near an Orb, the device used to verify humanness.

It also allows users to verify their identity beyond humanness and uniqueness, enhancing the utility of the World Network. Additionally, verified Passport Credentials enable users to claim additional WLD tokens, regardless of whether they have verified their World ID at an Orb. The total number of tokens available for claim decreases over time.

The pilot program is initially available on iOS for individuals with NFC-enabled passports from Chile, Colombia, Malaysia, and South Korea who are physically located in these countries. Support for Android devices is expected to follow soon, and the program will expand to additional countries in the future.

Individuals who verify their World ID at an Orb are currently eligible to claim around 51.67 WLD tokens. Those with a verified Passport Credential are eligible to claim an additional amount, providing further incentives for participation in the World Network.

The World Foundation has indicated plans to broaden access and enhance the functionality of the credential as part of its efforts to expand the network’s global reach.
