Tether, the issuer of the widely used USDT stablecoin, has provided an update on its decision to discontinue support for its tokens on several blockchain platforms, including Omni, Kusama, SLP, EOS, and Algorand. This move is part of a broader strategic effort to streamline blockchain support and prioritize community-driven preferences.
The company announced that starting September 1, 2025, it will no longer accept redemptions of USDT or EURT issued on these five blockchains. Furthermore, all remaining USDT and EURT tokens on these platforms will be frozen on the same date.
Tether emphasized its commitment to maintaining a secure and efficient blockchain ecosystem, citing factors such as network security, regulatory compliance, and user feedback as central to its decision-making process. According to the company, the discontinuation reflects its intention to focus resources on blockchains with higher adoption and community demand.
This announcement follows previous decisions to discontinue support for the Omni, Kusama, and SLP implementations in 2022, as well as the EOS and Algorand blockchains earlier this year. Tether stated that these moves align with its broader goals of enhancing security and efficiency while fostering innovation across the blockchain space.
Tether has urged its customers holding USDT and EURT on the affected blockchains to redeem their holdings as soon as possible or request transfers to supported blockchains. For non-customer token holders, the company suggested seeking migration services through third-party providers, in line with their terms.
The company has reiterated its commitment to engaging with its community and optimizing resources to support its long-term vision of a sustainable and democratized financial system.
