Synology unveils Next-Gen ActiveProtect Appliance series ahead of World Backup Day

Synology Inc. announced its new ActiveProtect Appliance series on Wednesday, a cutting-edge solution aimed at bolstering enterprise data protection just ahead of "World Backup Day."

The series promises rapid deployment and robust safeguards against data loss, breaches, and ransomware, targeting mid-sized to large businesses in an increasingly volatile digital landscape.

As a global leader in private cloud solutions—managing over 520 exabytes of data across 13 million servers and trusted by more than half of the Fortune 500—Synology emphasized the growing urgency for reliable, secure, and scalable data protection.

The company currently protects over 25 million workloads worldwide, ensuring business continuity across industries.

The launch comes as ransomware attacks surge, particularly in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region, where a 2023 attack on Gulf financial institutions underscored vulnerabilities.

With the regional backup and recovery market expected to grow over 10% annually through 2027, demand for advanced cybersecurity tools is at an all-time high.

The ActiveProtect Appliance series introduces faster backups, enhanced ransomware resilience, and a user-friendly interface.

Key features include advanced security with immutable, air-gapped backups, a unified management system scalable to 150,000 devices, and enterprise-grade protection at just 20% of the cost of traditional solutions. Its integrated software-hardware design also slashes installation and maintenance time.

“Data is the backbone of every modern enterprise, and cyber resilience has never been more critical,” said Michael Chang, Synology’s APAC Sales Head. “With cyber threats up 38% globally in 2023 and data breach costs averaging $4.45 million, ActiveProtect empowers businesses—especially in the MEA region—to protect their assets efficiently and confidently.”

Unlike conventional backup software, which often involves complex integrations and pricey per-workload licensing, Synology’s streamlined approach minimizes costs and downtime, offering a lifeline for enterprises facing everything from routine recovery to full-scale disasters.
