In the wake of rapid technological advancements, a new digital frontier has emerged, paving the way for cyber marauders. A recent US report has unveiled a clandestine cyber assault by a nation aimed at siphoning off sensitive information

A group of Chinese government-linked hackers has allegedly infiltrated many US telecommunication firms, such as Verizon Communications, AT&T and Lumen Technologies,  seeking out sensitive and confidential information on national security.

US investigators claim that hackers accessed wiretap warrant requests. However, officials are still working to determine what information the hackers may have obtained, according to a CNN report citing sources familiar with the matter.

U.S. officials are alarmed by the potential national security implications of a recently discovered hacking incident. This sophisticated cyberattack, linked to China, is the latest in a series of breaches targeting U.S. federal agencies.

The recent accusations come at a time of heightened tensions between Washington and Beijing over cyber-espionage and other critical national security concerns.

Last week, Homeland Security also issued an urgent warning, claiming they see a growing threat from Russia, Iran and China, who will try to influence the Nov. 5 elections.

Report claims that cybersecurity analysts from Microsoft and Google-owned firm Madiant have been recruited to investigate the hacking activity.

Responding to these allegations, the Chinese Embassy spokesperson Liu Penngyu called the information “a distortion of the facts” and accused the US of “politicizing cybersecurity issues to smear China.”
