Meta announced the release of a new artificial intelligence model, Meta Motivo, designed to enhance the movement and realism of digital human-like agents, aiming to improve the overall experience within the Metaverse. The announcement comes as Meta continues its heavy investment in AI, augmented reality, and Metaverse technologies, with a record capital expense forecast of $37 billion to $40 billion for 2024.

Meta Motivo tackles challenges in body control for digital avatars, enabling more realistic and human-like movements. According to Meta, this advancement has the potential to create lifelike non-playable characters (NPCs), democratize character animation, and unlock new immersive experiences in the Metaverse.

“This research could pave the way for fully embodied agents in the Metaverse,” Meta said in a statement, emphasizing its commitment to fostering innovation in the virtual space.

In addition to Meta Motivo, the company unveiled a new training model for language processing, the Large Concept Model (LCM), which Meta described as a significant shift from traditional large language models (LLMs). Unlike typical LLMs, which predict the next word in a sequence, the LCM predicts concepts or high-level ideas, represented by entire sentences across multimodal and multilingual contexts.

“The LCM is trained to decouple reasoning from language representation,” Meta said, framing it as a groundbreaking step in the evolution of AI for complex reasoning tasks.

Meta also highlighted another AI tool, Video Seal, which embeds hidden watermarks into videos. These watermarks are invisible to viewers but traceable, adding a layer of security and authenticity to digital content.

The release of these AI models aligns with Meta’s strategy of making its AI tools freely available to developers, believing that an open approach will lead to the creation of better tools for its platforms. As Meta continues to push boundaries in AI and immersive technologies, these innovations are set to play a central role in advancing the Metaverse.
