Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, sent a letter to Jim Jordan, the Chairman of the Committee on the Judiciary, claiming that US President Joe Biden's administration “repeatedly pressured” his team to censor certain COVID-19 content, including humor and satire.

In the letter sent on Aug. 26, Zuckerberg claimed that when Meta did not agree with the Biden administration, the administration expressed a “lot of frustration” with the team. The Meta’s CEO mentioned the “government pressure was wrong” and regretted not reporting earlier.

Stating what Meta will do in the future, Zuckerberg said:

“I feel strongly that we should not compromise our content standards due to pressure from any Administration in either direction — and we’re ready to push back if something like this happens again.”

When the FBI warned about potential Russian disinformation, Zuckerberg admitted that they “temporarily demoted” a New York Post story reporting on corruption allegations involving then-Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s family.

After fact-checking, it was revealed that the reporting was not Russian disinformation and did not need to be demoted. Zuckerberg stated that they have changed their policies and processes “to make sure this doesn’t happen.”

One of the questions raised by the community was will any action be taken against the government, Meta, and Zuckerberg for violating citizen’s freedom of speech. Many X users shared their frustrations, criticizing the government for its inaction.

Kim Dotcom, an entrepreneur and hacker, claimed that Zuckerberg “knew exactly what he was doing.” Dotcom mentioned that Zuckerberg and his wife donated $400 million to assist the US election office in setting up the mail-in-ballot system “that was used to manipulate the 2020 election results.”

Peter Schiff, an American stockbroker, also stated that Zuckerberg’s confession proves that the Biden administration interfered in the 2020 election. Schiff further claimed that the current presidential candidate, Donald Trump, was right about the 2020 election being “stolen.”
